Bang on the money: Sir Michael Caine’s first car sells for £135,000
The auction estimate for Caine's glorious Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was spot-on
When news broke that a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, once owned by Sir Michael Caine, was set to go to auction, we unashamedly fawned over the stunning black-and-white pics from the 1960s featuring the Oscar winner. And the Silver Shadow isn’t just a gorgeous object - it comes with a very cool backstory involving milk and bread. No, seriously. Click those blue words for a recap.
Whomever bought the Silver Shadow this time around definitely brought the bread. Now the proud owner of one of 506 of the special drophead coupes built in the ‘60s, they dropped a very cool £135,000 to secure the final price at the auction, held by H&H Classics at the Imperial War Museum, Duxford.
Smack bang in the £100,000 - £150,000 estimation, the car had undergone a number of restorative jobs in recent years, including a return to its original black paintwork. The car can be seen in Candid Caine, a documentary about the British actor, famous for a slew of classic films including the Mini-bonanza that is The Italian Job.
